Self-similarity in a General Aggregation-Fragmentation Problem ; Application to Fitness Analysis

چکیده
We consider the linear growth and fragmentation equation ∂ ∂t u(x, t) + ∂ ∂x ( τ(x)u ) + β(x)u = 2 ∫ ∞ x β(y)κ(x, y)u(y, t) dy, with general coefficients τ, β and κ. Under suitable conditions (see [17]), the first eigenvalue represents the asymptotic growth rate of solutions, also called the fitness or Malthus coefficient in population dynamics. This value is of crucial importance in understanding the long-time behavior of the population. We investigate the dependence of the dominant eigenvalue and the corresponding eigenvector on the transport and fragmentation coefficients. We show how it behaves asymptotically depending on whether transport dominates fragmentation or vice versa. For this purpose we perform a suitable blow-up analysis of the eigenvalue problem in the limit of a small/large growth coefficient (resp. fragmentation coefficient). We exhibit a possible non-monotonic dependence on the parameters, in contrast to what would have been conjectured on the basis of some simple cases.

An improved similarity measure of generalized trapezoidal fuzzy numbers and its application in multi-attribute group decision making
Generalized trapezoidal fuzzy numbers (GTFNs) have been widely applied in uncertain decision-making problems. The similarity between GTFNs plays an important part in solving such problems, while there are some limitations in existing similarity measure methods. Thus, based on the cosine similarity, a novel similarity measure of GTFNs is developed which is combined with the concepts of geometric...
متن کاملOn self-similarity and stationary problem for fragmentation and coagulation models
We prove the existence of a stationary solution of any given mass to the coagulationfragmentation equation without assuming a detailed balance condition, but assuming instead that aggregation dominates fragmentation for small particles while fragmentation predominates for large particles. We also show the existence of a self similar solution of any given mass to the coagulation equation and to ...
متن کاملEstimating the Division Rate of the Self-Similar Growth-Fragmentation Equation
We consider the growth-fragmentation equation and we address the problem of finding the division rate from the stable size distribution of the population, which is easily measured, but non-smooth. We propose a method based on the Mellin transform for growth-fragmentation equations with self-similar kernels. We build a sequence of functions which converges to the density of the population in div...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the dimensions of epistemological beliefs, self-efficacy and academic achievement in physical sciences (physics, chemistry). To achieve this end, 475 students (241 females and 235 males) were selected from 10 guidance schools in Shiraz through selective sampling. Their average age was 13 with the standard deviation of 6 mon...
متن کاملApplication of Artificial Neural Network in Landscape Change Process in Gharesou Watershed, Golestan Province
Land use change is certainly the most important factor that affects the conservation of natural ecosystems, resulting the conversion of natural lands such as forests and pastures into agricultural, industrial and urban areas. Despite numerous studies investigating landscape patterns due to land use change, the driving forces of landscape change has been less studied in Iran. In this study, Arti...
